Incel CS lecturer at Waterloo
$2.4.1 DIFFICULTIES OF HUNTING AT WORK"
I don't know what to say
"In academia, dating and romantic/sexual relationship between professors and students is controversial"
Yes. Yes it is.
"There is clearly a world-wide bias in judgmental decisions for accusing males, compared to females, in harassments. It may be because males usually ask out and show interest in females and females may take it as an offense."
Okay so has anyone explained to you the concept of power dynamics and unethical abuse of authority roles?
"A funny thing is that once, in a seminar for teaching assistants in the University of Waterloo, they told us that teaching
assistants should not date students. I asked about the case of John Nash. The professor answered me that they married
after the student graduated (which I think is not true). Then, I answered even if that is true, did they suddenly get
married without any dating? Of course, they dated before that, while she was a student! I think they themselves know
that this rule is nonfunctional because if the professor/instructor and the student are both single, they may like each
other or fall in love as they interact frequently in the school. This rule was even criticised in the American comedy show "Friends" (season 6, episode 18)."
Ok, there's a lot to unpack here, but the main bit is this: Do you understand that the sitcom "Friends" is not a good source for understanding ethics?

*I bought a donut. And they gave me a receipt for the donut.*
Do you remember when you'd participate in an online community and your reward for doing so was.... participation in that community?
*I don’t need a receipt for a donut. I’ll just give you the money. You give me the donut. End of transaction.*
Now you post in some community or forum and you get participation awards.
*We don’t need to bring ink and paper into this.*
I just got an award.

Sometimes "couch philosophers" join in a debate.
Usually, these are the people who don't know shit on the subject at hand. Their knowledge is basically what they just came up with. Their authority is based on the fact that they've read, or heard, something, somewhere, at some point in time. Even if it weren't complete tabloid class bullshit, they've usually only skimmed over it, without true comprehension or understanding the context, forgot most of it, and filled all these blanks with whatever fitted their world view.
They enjoy indifference, since the topic in question doesn't really concern them, and they call it "an open mind". They don't try to understand the emotions of the other person, that is directly troubled by the issue at hand. All they care about is discussing for the sake of it. Sometimes they actually enjoy when the debate turns into a shitstorm, when they manage to trigger an emotional response, and they gloat in their "alpha male" "superiority".
There's no point in talking to these people. You need to recognize the symptoms quickly, and ban them. Every counterargument is giving them satisfaction that they've triggered an answer, that they've got everyone's attention on them. The best you can do is take away the possibility of further participation from them.
